In Person Lessons

Even in this day and age of all things digital and online, many prefer in person English lessons.
And it’s easy to understand why. Language isn’t just grammar and vocabulary—it’s tone, body language, facial expressions, and gestures. These subtle cues are harder to pick up online but naturally reinforced in person. In person lessons place students in an environment designed for learning, free from pop-up notifications, email notifications, internet lag, and multitasking temptations.
And even with the huge strides with the speed and quality of online apps such as MS Teams, technical problems are commonplace: your computer automatically starts an upgrade, and needs to be restarted; or your webcam’s mic suddenly stops working for no apparent reason; or you forgot to charge your laptop’s battery and it suddenly shuts down in the middle of the lesson, etc. Speaking from years of personal experience, Murphy’s Law was especially made for computers and internet apps.
For this reason about half of my students prefer in person lessons. It’s easy to understand why: it’s face to face, so fewer distractions. It’s simple, immediate: you focus more. Students can interrupt naturally, ask quick clarifying questions, and learn to “read the room”—skills that don’t transfer as well online.
There is also nuanced, immediate feedback: pronunciation corrections are easier face-to-face, without microphone distortion or latency issues. In short, studying English in person is the same setting you’ll use it most: in conversations, workplaces, and everyday life—not through a headset.
All things considered, it doesn’t have to be either in person or online: many of my clients use both. Sometimes they can’t have an in person lesson, so we opt for an online lesson. It’s a win-win for both teacher and student 😎.
